Production Coordinator

Blueprint Reality - MixCast

Check out Mixcast on it's website here: www.mixcast.me

My latest experience as a professional in the industry was working as a Production Coordinator at Blueprint reality. Blueprint Reality is a Local Startup that develops Mixcast, the premier Mixed Reality Solution.

What is Mixed reality?

Usually, if you were to play a VR game, you would only be able to share your experience with others by recording a first-person view of the program. While it may achieve the idea of sending a video, it's fundamentally not the same as watching someone play something like a first person shooter, since one of the most important aspects about Virtual Reality is that you are immersed in the environment with your HMD of choice.

Mixcast thankfully can resolve this problem. By using Mixcast you are able to take your camera's position in reality and create a virtual counterpart, that will then combine both you and your virtual experience together. So you, and whoever your audience may be, are both truly immersed in the game.

As Production Coordinator I was tasked with many different things around the studio, although most of my focus was on Quality Assurance.

I would start my day by checking the status of my reported bugs and other tasks marked as 'Ready for QA' by my colleagues, If necessary I would inquire about the feature to the developer so I know exactly what I am looking for.

After I understand the Jira ticket enough, I pull the latest build . Afterwards I would pull the latest build to verify whether it is a 'Pass' or a 'Fail', and update the ticket accordingly. I made sure to always explain why a particular bug or feature was ever marked as a pass or a fail to make sure that we had everything documented, in case of regression.

If we have a release coming up, me and the QA Lead would run a Test Pass using Testrail to verify the stability of our product. Since we have Jira and Testrail linked, if we ever mark a Testrail test case as a 'Fail' then it automatically creates a ticket in Jira. This workflow allows us to quickly notify our developers whenever we need them to fix something, and enables QA to monitor the progress of the fix in Jira.

Whenever I was not needed to assist QA, I assisted other departments around the studio.

If the website needed to be updated with titles that have integrated our SDK, I would assist our web developer by adding them to our website.

If our Wiki needed to be updated, I would update the information on our wiki pages or create entirely new pages if necessary.

If our producers needed assistance creating a new promotional video, I would be able to assist them.

If we needed somebody to compile information, I would create a spreadsheet to help illustrate it. A good example of this is when I gathered information from several different streaming platforms and compiled them all into one spreadsheet for the sake of conveying what each platform's recommended defaults are for streamers.

I am thankful for my time at Blueprint Reality, working with a small group of talented developers has helped me learn a lot about QA and many other aspects of working in a company. I was lucky to experience a transitional period between Assembla towards Jira, as well as starting to use Testrail instead of using a Google Sheet. Because of this I was able to understand the benefits of our new software compared to our previous solutions while experiencing the discovery of the versatility that our new solutions offered.

Thanks Blueprint Reality!
